How To Get Ready For Your Dentist Appointment

Posted on

If you are preparing to visit a new dentist office, or you haven't been to the dentist in quite a while, there are some things that you can do to make your visit a little easier.  Your oral health is a big deal, because your smile is the first thing many people notice about you.  Keeping it bright and clean is especially important, and there's no better way to do that than to pay a visit to the dentist office every six months.  Here are some tips to help you get ready for that first appointment.

Records

If you haven't been to this dentist office before, or you are new in town, you should get your dental records transferred to the new office.  Your past dentist office will be glad to send them all of your dental history.

Medical History

Most dentist offices will have you fill out a patient history, which will include your medical and dental history.  You should have this information ready so that the dentist and hygienists can get accurate information from you and provide you with the best dental care.  Be sure to arrive early enough in order to adequately fill out all of the necessary paperwork.

Scheduled Appointment

When initially calling the office, be sure to schedule your first appointment at a date and time that is convenient for you.  Especially if it is your first one, the appointment may be longer than normal so that you can provide them with all your medical, dental and insurance information.  If you are rushed, you may be more likely to forget something, or you may suffer more anxiety if it is usually a problem.

Be Ready to Discuss Problems

When you get the opportunity to talk with the dentist and hygienist, always remember to thoroughly discuss all problems and concerns so that they can go over each one and the solutions to those problems.  Be sure to take note of and be honest about when you have pain, where the pain is located in your mouth, and any blood or swelling that you notice.  If they have to perform a procedure on you, be sure to ask any question necessary until you completely understand it.

Preparing for the Appointment

It is beneficial to you that you are relaxed and ready for your appointment before you go.  In preparing for your first visit to a new dentist office, be sure to wear comfortable clothing, be well rested, and try to avoid sugar and caffeine before the visit, as they can make you more anxious or agitated.  If you need to, write down some important questions that you don't want to forget to ask.  Also, be sure to write down all of the medications that you take on a daily basis.

Visiting a new dentist office, such as Tryon Family Dentistry, doesn't need to induce anxiety.  If you simply prepare yourself and stay relaxed and ready, you'll have a successful appointment, and better oral health because of it.
